A weekend away between Shepparton and Bright

A weekend away between Shepparton and Bright

In Shepparton

Start your journey with a breath of fresh air at the newly redeveloped Victoria Park Lake, known by locals and visitors alike as the oasis at the centre of town. With barbecue facilities and picnic spots, as well as local flora and wildlife, Victoria Park is sure to put you in the right frame of mind for a relaxing weekend away. If you’re keen to make the most of the outdoors, spare some time for a climb to the top of Shepparton’s Communications Tower. At the summit is an observation deck, where you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views over the whole town and reaching as far as the Goulburn River.

On the way to Bright

In Dookie, past and present converge at the Emporium and Harvest Café – hunt for collectables, antiques, memorabilia and vintage clothing while sipping your morning coffee. Next, breathe fresh air on a hike up Mount Major, and glimpse the start of the Great Dividing Range. In Glenrowan, stop at the Glenrowan Siege site and Ned Kelly Museum, where a replica cottage will give you an intimate idea of what life was like for people during the 1800s. You can also learn about the history of the Kelly family and gang, and see where Ned Kelly made his final stand.

In Bright

Once you get to Bright, stretch your legs on Canyon Walk, one of the most popular walks in the region. The Ovens River has carved a small canyon into the rock, and the scenery is constantly being changed by the weather, meaning that the walk will never be quite the same twice. After that, stroll the main streets and dig through antiques on display, pick up a souvenir or gift for those you’ve left at home or satiate your sweet tooth at the old-fashioned lolly shop or the Craft Chocolate company.
