In partnership with Inverell Tourism.
When you’re travelling, it’s rare to come across a destination like Inverell. Located in northern New South Wales, the town is teeming with incredible charm, history, natural wonders, amazing boutiques, wonderful attractions, and so much more – all wrapped up in a beautiful bow! Even the most discerning traveller is bound to enjoy Inverell.
The town is synonymous with sapphires, as many visitors arrive throughout the year to fossick for this beautiful gem. Inverell is most widely known for its precious, deep blue sapphire, and once supplied 75 per cent of the global sapphire market during the 1970s boom.
The town itself has a magnificent CBD that’s framed with heritage architecture – some even dating back to the 19th century. The history of the town can be enjoyed by taking a heritage walk, where you can admire the diverse range of buildings.
Inverell is also home to the Kurrajongs, a valiant group of men who left to fight in World War I. At the time of their departure, they were the largest group of men to leave an Australian country town during the war effort.
If you like a natural getaway, then now is the perfect time to stargaze at the spectacular Copeton Dam. The dam is three times the size of Sydney Harbour at high tide, and is currently full to capacity for only the fifth time since its construction. The dam has state-of-the-art facilities available, as well as plenty of space for you to enjoy the serenity on your own, or with others.
