Welcome back to our three-part series of our trip from Albury Wodonga to Mildura. Part 1 saw us explore Albury Wodonga and all the attractions the region has to offer towards Echuca. Welcome to Part 2.
Echuca to Swan Hill
152 kilometres, two hours
Driving long distances can take it out of you, why don’t you opt for a change of scenery? Jump onboard a paddle streamer to experience the Murray in its purest form. Daily and overnight cruises operate frequently, which can take you to your next destination of Swan Hill.
If you’re continuing the drive, the Barmah National Park is home to world’s largest river red gum forest and an abundance of native birds. Those who love a walking trail will enjoy the Yamyabuc Discovery Trail, the Lakes Loop Track or the Broken Creek Loop Track.
Bird lovers will fall in love with the Reed Beds Bird Hide in Mathoura, for some of the best bird watching sights in Australia. Binoculars are an essential if you really want to spot them!
A few kilometres from Echuca is the Great Aussie Beer Shed and Heritage Fam Museum, which is filled with quirky memorabilia – you’ll find 17,000 beer cans from all over the world! A Coca Cola collection, partially restored World War 1 cannon and a collection of carts from the 1800-1900s are also on offer.
Along the way, you will also discover The Carriages Vineyard – 80 hectares of grape vines owned by the Johnson family. Merlot, cabaret sauvignon, semillon and chardonnay drinkers will be in heaven! For an immersive experience, visit the family farm during March and April to witness the hand picking of grapes for their red wines.
After a two-hour journey, you’ve arrived at Swan Hill.
