National Parks: New South Wales and Australian Capital Territory

Australia’s national parks are filled with unique wildlife and endless beauty. They’re the perfect destination to enjoy open skies by day and glittering stars by night. Get close to nature by visiting some of these parks and enjoying all that they have to offer. This week as part of our ‘National Parks’ series, Caravanning Australia takes you to some of the most breathtaking parks in New South Wales and Australian Capital Territory.

Nymboi–Binderay National Park

Nestled deep behind Coffs Harbour lies a nirvana filled with eucalyptus trees, rainforest and flowing rivers – where you can spot platypuses swimming. The Nymboida River, which runs through the park, forms part of Australia’s longest white-water river trail.  Kayaking and white-water rafting enthusiasts will love it here, while those looking for a more relaxed experience can go for a swim or walk among the giant tallowwood trees.

Namadgi National Park

There are many reasons to visit this park boasting stunning natural sights, wildlife and rich Ngunnawal history. It has archaeological sites showing a presence of at least 21,000 years in the area. With 160 kilometres of marked walking tracks, walking is one of the best ways to explore the park. Stroll through Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve to see a rainbow of delicate flowers and fruits during flowering season. You can also go cycling, horseriding or even fishing in some Namadgi mountain streams.

Wadbilliga National Park

Located between the Snowy Mountains and the South Coast, this park features alpine landscapes, coastal sights and craggy gorges. Cutting through the park is the Tuross River, which feeds into Tuross Falls, a majestic waterfall that crashes off imposing granite cliffs. It’s a great spot for bushwalkers and campers, with the Cascades camping ground just a short walk from a viewing platform overlooking Tuross Falls. Due to its relatively isolated nature, there’s plenty of critters to spot – eastern grey kangaroos, wombats, possums, platypuses and echidnas.
