Summer on the Fraser Coast

Summer on the Fraser Coast

The wonders of the Fraser Coast are, of course, far too many to list here, but for a memorable weekend this summer, there are plenty of options to choose from, and all just a short drive away from Brisbane.

Take the family on a four-wheel tour of the island, or join a four-wheel driving group to meet like-minded people and share driving techniques with other sand-dune enthusiasts. Summer is one of the best times of the year for beach driving, as the sun is shining and you can enjoy the surreal sight of the bush out of one window and the tide out the other.

If four-wheel driving is not for you, strap on your hiking boots for a nature walk through the subtropical rainforests that surround the coast, or sit back and relax with a ride on a miniature railway at the Queen’s Park in Maryborough.

A scenic flight over Fraser Island is the perfect addition to any itinerary, followed by a lazy afternoon on the banks of Lake McKenzie. Then, pick up the pace on a horseback tour of the region’s grasslands, beaches and mountains.

Next, get close to native wildlife with a dolphin watching cruise, or get out your fishing gear for a relaxing afternoon beside the waves at multiple fishing spots along the coast. There’s no better way to spend the summer!
