Professional photographers and snap-happy enthusiasts alike rejoice in some of New South Wales’s most impressive natural landscapes.
Olney State Forest
Just over an hour south-west from Newcastle, you’ll find the Olney State Forest. Nestled in the heart of the Central Coast’s Watagan Mountains, Olney State Forest is a picturesque haven shrouded in looming pines and ancient gum trees. Timber has been harvested in the area for close to 100 years, with the forest management practices today placing a particular emphasis onprotecting biodiversity in the area. In other words, the forest is full of pristine natural wonders. Explore the forest’s bubbling creeks, walking trails, and family-friendly picnic and camping areas with a multi-day stay or a jam-packed daytrip. Either way, you’ll come across some exciting photo opportunities this autumn, as the leaves turn ruby, amber and bronze.
Belmore Falls
Breathtaking views are only the beginning of what Belmore Falls has to offer. Head to the Southern Highlands region to marvel at the sheer magnificence of the multi-tiered, 100-metre cascading waterfall, and to admire the abundance of native wildflowers scattered throughout the area. You can view the impressive Belmore Falls and surrounding Kangaroo Valley with a walk on the Belmore Falls Walking Track, or a hike up to the Hindmarsh Lookout. Make sure you stock up on supplies for the day, as the walks aren’t for the faint of heart. Your hard work will pay off, however, once you get that Instagram shot!
Hyams Beach
Pretend that summer isn’t over yet at Hyams Beach on the New South Wales South Coast. Famous for its bright, white sand and aquamarine waters, Hyams Beach looks like the kind of postcard-worthy place you’d only ever dream about. Even with the cooler weather setting in, this coastal haven still has so much on offer. Wildlife enthusiasts can try their luck on a whale watching tour, or can take a leisurely stroll through the nearby Jervis Bay National Park and dabble in some birdwatching. Grab a bite to eat at the Hyams Beach Store and Cafe after the animals have put on a show, and kick back to admire your photography skills.
