After months of restrictions and lockdowns, Australians are keener than ever to explore this amazing country. But it’s important to stay safe with a few simple precautions so that you can travel with your mind at ease. Staying on top of cleaning and taking extra measures means that you can help prevent the spread. Here are some of Caravanning Australia’s hygiene tips.
Mask up
Wearing a mask provides a physical barrier against the virus, as well as containing droplets when people cough or sneeze. Your mask needs to cover your nose and mouth to function properly. You can use either single-use masks, or re-usable ones, but make sure you wash them properly between uses. When washing your re-usable masks, use detergent in a hot wash cycle. It must be completely dry before you can wear it again.
Wash your hands often – and properly!
Washing your hands is one of the best ways to prevent the spread of COVID-19, but it must be done properly. You can wash your hands with soap and water, or with alcohol-based sanitiser (which must have at least 60 per cent alcohol to be effective). Use enough soap, wash your hands for at least 30 seconds, and dry off properly. Under and around fingernails are difficult to get clean, so be sure to focus on those.
Keep your vehicle well sanitised
This is a crucial part of staying hygienic and safe. Make sure you sanitise your hands before entering your vehicle, and keep all surfaces clean. Focus on frequently touched areas, such as door handles, steering wheel, gear stick, air conditioning and radio buttons. These can be cleaned with surface disinfecting wipes, or a washable wipe paired with an appropriate cleaning solution. Make sure that you dispose of single-use wipes or wash re-usable wipes correctly.
Stock up on sanitisation products
It’s always a good idea to have extra products so you don’t run out on the road – especially as you can sometimes be miles away from any nearby shops! You should have tissues, alcohol-based hand sanitiser, cleaning products and soap. These are also handy to have in portable sizes, so you can carry them on your person.
